Videos and songs to help First Grade kids learn how to pronounce consonant blend CR.
A consonant blend occurs when two or three consonant sounds are clustered together in a word. You can still hear each individual sound, but they are blended together. Learn words that begin or end with CR.
Learning the “Cr” Blend
The “cr” blend is formed by combining the consonant sounds of “c” and “r”:
“c” sound: /k/ (as in “cat”)
“r” sound: /r/ (as in “run”)
When these sounds are blended, they create the /kr/ sound. Try saying it slowly: /k/-/r/-/kr/. You should be able to distinguish both the /k/ and /r/ sounds.
Here are some common words that begin with the “cr” blend:
crack, crash, crush, creep, crunch, crab, craft, crate, crown, crayon
The following diagram shows some examples of words that start with CR. Practice saying these “cr” blend words to learn to the “cr” blend sound. Scroll down the page for more examples.
