How to graph linear equations on the coordinate plane using intercepts?

The x-intercept is the point where the line crosses the x-axis. At this point, y = 0.
The y-intercept is the point where the line crosses the y-axis. At this point, x = 0.

Steps to Graph a Linear Equation Using Intercepts:

  1. Find the x-intercept:
    Set y = 0 and solve for x.
    The x-intercept is the point (x, 0).
  2. Find the y-intercept:
    Set x = 0 and solve for y.
    The y-intercept is the point (0, y).
  3. Plot the intercepts: Locate the x-intercept and y-intercept on the coordinate plane.
  4. Draw the line: Connect the x-intercept and y-intercept with a straight line.

The following diagram gives an example of how to graph a linear equation using intercepts.
