Examples, solutions, videos, and worksheets to help Grade 2 students learn how to pair objects and skip-count to relate to even numbers.
There are two sets of Even Number worksheets.
Pairing objects and counting by two’s are hands-on ways to introduce the concept of even numbers, especially to young learners.
Pairing Objects:
Begin with a collection of objects, such as coins, blocks, or buttons.
Explain to students that you want to make pairs of these objects.
Physically group the objects into pairs, ensuring that each pair consists of two objects.
Counting by Twos:
As you pair the objects, count them aloud by twos. For example, if you have ten objects and pair them, you’ll count “2, 4, 6, 8, 10."
Emphasize that even numbers are the numbers you say when you’re counting by twos, starting from 2.
Once students understand the concept of even numbers through pairing objects, you can transition to identifying even numbers in a list of integers.
Explain that an even number is one that can be paired or divided into two equal parts without any left over.
By relating pairing objects to even numbers, you make the concept more tangible and intuitive for students, especially at the early stages of learning. It’s a concrete way to introduce the idea that even numbers occur in pairs and are divisible by 2, laying a strong foundation for further mathematical understanding.
