Learning the “Fl” Consonant Blend
The “fl” blend is a consonant blend where the letters f and l come together. Both consonants retain their sounds:
/f/ as in “fun,” and
/l/ as in “love."
When blended, they produce the sound /fl/, as in the word “flag."

The “fl” sound involves pronouncing the “f” and “l” sounds together in quick succession, where the “f” is the first sound and the “l” follows immediately after it.
Example: “fl” as in “flower”, “flame”, or “flock”.

The following diagram gives some examples of Fl sound words. Scroll down the page for more examples.
