The long “I” sound (/aɪ/) is one of the key vowel sounds in English. This sound occurs when the letter “I” says its name, as in the word ice.
Common Spelling Patterns for Long “I”
I_E: Silent “E” at the end of a word makes the “I” long.

IGH: Commonly appears in the middle of words.
