How to convert between different metric lengths?
Here are some common units of length in the metric system and their conversions:
1 meter (m) = 100 centimeter (cm)
1 kilometer (km) = 1000 meters (m)
Example: Convert 5 km to m.
We know 1 km = 1,000 m. So, 5 km = 5 × 1,000 m = 5,000 m.
Therefore, 5 km is equal to 5000 m.
Example: Convert 6 m 15 cm to cm.
We know 1 m = 100 cm. So, 6 m = 6 × 100 cm = 600 cm.
Therefore, 6 m 15 cm = 600 + 15 cm = 615 cm
Example: Convert 800 cm to m.
We know 1 m = 100 cm. So, 800 cm = 800 ÷ 100 = 8 m.
Therefore, 800 cm is equal to 8 m.
Example: Convert 15,000 m to km
we know 1 km = 1000 m. So, 15,000 m = 15,000 ÷ 1000 = 15 km
Therefore, 15,000 m is equal to 15 km.
