How to find the Mode?

There are two sets of Mode worksheets.

• Mode Worksheet (Positive Numbers).
• Mode Worksheet (Include Negative Numbers).

To find the mode of a dataset, you need to identify the value or values that occur most frequently in the dataset. Here are the steps to find the mode:

1. Organize Your Data
   Start by organizing your dataset in ascending or descending order. This can make it easier to identify repeated values.
   
2. Count the Frequency of Each Value
   Count how many times each value appears in the dataset. You can create a frequency distribution or count them manually.
3. Identify the Value(s) with the Highest Frequency
   Determine which value(s) have the highest frequency. These are the mode(s) of the dataset.
4. Interpret the Result
   The mode is the value that occurs most frequently in the dataset. If there’s only one such value, the dataset is unimodal (one mode). If there are two or more values with the same highest frequency, the dataset is multimodal (multiple modes).

For example, let’s find the mode of the following dataset:
7, 5, 9, 7, 11, 13, 9, 11, 9

1. Organize Your Data
   Organize the data in ascending order:
   5, 7, 7, 9, 9, 9, 11, 11, 13
2. Count the Frequency of Each Value
   5 appears once.
   7 appears twice.
   9 appears three times.
   11 appears twice.
   13 appears once.
   
3. Identify the Value(s) with the Highest Frequency
   The value with the highest frequency is 9 because it appears three times. So, 9 is the mode of this dataset.

In this case, the dataset is unimodal because there’s only one mode.
If there were multiple values with the same highest frequency, you would have multiple modes, and the dataset would be considered multimodal.
