Decomposing the Value of a Quarter:
To decompose the value of a quarter into smaller denominations (pennies, nickels, and dimes), we can use different combinations.
Here are a few examples:
Using Pennies (1 cent):
25 pennies make a quarter.
Using Nickels (5 cents):
5 nickels make a quarter.
Using Dimes (10 cents):
2 dimes and 1 nickel make a quarter (10 + 10 + 5 = 25).

In grade 1, students may begin to understand the concept of decomposing values using different coin denominations. Hands-on activities with play money or real coins can help reinforce these concepts. For example, you can use manipulatives to represent different coin combinations that add up to 25 cents, allowing students to visually grasp the decomposition of a quarter.

Have a look at this video if you need to learn how to identify pennies, nickels, and dimes by their image, name, or value.
