Order of Operations, Parenthesis Worksheets

Free printable and online math worksheets to help students learn how to understand the function of parentheses and apply to solving problems.

Some of the functions of parenthesis are:

  1. Grouping Operations:
Parentheses are used to indicate that operations within them should be performed first. This helps to clarify the order of operations.
    For example:
    4 + (3 × 2) = 4 + 6 = 10.
The multiplication inside the parentheses is performed before the addition.

  2. Changing the Order of Operations:
Parentheses can alter the usual order of operations. Operations inside parentheses are prioritized over those outside.
    For example:
    2 × (3 + 4) = 2 × 7 = 14.
The addition inside the parentheses is performed first, and then the multiplication.
