How to use the product rule of exponents?

There are two sets of product rule of exponents worksheets.

  • Product Rule of Exponents
  • Product Rule of Exponents (Coefficients > 1)

The product rule of exponents is one of the fundamental rules that govern the manipulation of expressions involving exponents. This rule applies when you multiply two exponential expressions with the same base. The product rule states:

am × an = am+n

When you multiply two exponential terms with the same base, you can add their exponents. This rule is particularly useful for simplifying expressions and solving equations involving exponential terms with the same base.

For example:
23 × 25 = 23+5 = 28

This rule extends to any real number or variable as the base, as long as the bases are the same. It is a fundamental concept in algebra and helps make calculations involving exponents more manageable.
