Free printable and online worksheets to help Grade 7 students review how to identify proportional and non-proportional relationships in tables. Decide whether two quantities are proportional to each other by checking for a constant multiple between measures of x and measures of y when given in a table.

Proportional Relationships Using Tables

A proportional relationship between two quantities can be easily identified and represented using tables. In a table, if the ratio of one quantity to the other is constant across all pairs of values, the relationship is proportional.

Identifying Proportional Relationships in Tables
To determine if a relationship is proportional using a table, follow these steps:

  1. Calculate the Ratio:
For each pair of values, calculate the ratio 𝑦/𝑥
  2. Check for Consistency:
If the ratio 𝑦/𝑥 is the same for all pairs of values, the relationship is proportional.

Using tables to determine proportional relationships is a straightforward method for understanding and visualizing how two quantities relate to each other.
