The following diagrams show the properties of waves: amplitude and wavelength.
Properties of Waves
Describe wave motion in terms of amplitude, wavelength, frequency and period.
The Wave Equation
How to use the wave equation to calculate the speed of a wave?
Describe a method for measuring the speed of sound waves in air.
Velocity = frequency × wavelength
v = f × λ
Example:
1. A wave has a frequency of 165 Hz and a wave length of 2 m. Calculate the speed of the wave.
2. A wave has a frequency of 10000 Hz and a wave length of 2 cm. Calculate the speed of the wave.
3. A wave has a speed of 500 m/s and a frequency of 200 Hz. Calculate the wavelength.
